Incredible App to Keep You Productive
I love the Dropbox iOS App. It allows me to stay connected to important files and projects I’m working on while I’m on the go. I recently published an entire course on Leveraging Dropbox Cloud Storage to Boost Your Productivity on Udemy.

Here’s an overview of the Dropbox iOS App for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
The Dropbox App allows you to share share files and stay connected with your work wherever you are. And in a jam, you can have access to all the files you’re working on.
Find the Dropbox App in the App Store
In the App Store, search for “Dropbox” and you’ll find the App.
Recents Tab
After you sign in to your Dropbox Account you will find yourself in the Recent Tab.
Here you’ll find the files you most recently worked on or uploaded to Dropbox.
Files Tab
The Files Tab most likely will be where you spend most of your time in the Dropbox App. Here you can work with all of your files and folders.
Files Tab- Upper Right Menu
These are the options for the Files Tab.
- Create a New File
- Upload a File from your device
- Create a New Folder
- Select Multiple Files
- Or Sort by Date rather than Name
Downward Arrow Menu
Beside each file is a circle with a downward arrow. Tapping on that circle will bring up a number of actions you can perform on that file or folder.
- Send a link to the file (This is how we’re able to send large files even from your phone)
- Make the file available offline (this will save the file to your device for offline viewing and editing)
- Rename, Move, or Delete the file
File Preview
Tapping on the name of a file will open a preview of that file. iOS devices can view most file types including Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Image Files, and More.
Comment on Files
When previewing a file, tapping on the comment bubble in the bottom left corner will bring up all the comments on that particular file and allow you to add more comments.
Share Files
Tapping on the Share Icon (Square with an arrow going up out of the box) in the top right corner of the app will bring up the Share Sheet.
Here you have a number of actions and apps that you can send the file or a link to the file to. The actions in this menu are customizable and will vary based on what other Apps you have installed on your device. Pictured are some of the most common Share Sheet Actions.
More Files Actions
The File Action Button (Three dots) in the upper right of the App drops down a menu of other actions you can do on the file.
Photos Tab
The Photos Tab is special because it pulls all the photos in your dropbox together sorted by date. While the File Tab has many folders, the Photos tab pulls all the photos together regardless of what tab it’s in and gives you an easy way to view just the photos and image files in your Dropbox.
The Checkbox in the upper right of the App will enable you to select multiple photos before you perform an action like sharing them.
Tapping on a photo will open a larger preview of that photo.
Offline Files
Any Files and Folders that you have marked to be made available offline will be downloaded to your device and will remain here. If you have a previous version of the App, this might be called the “Favorites” Tab.
Settings Tab
Finally the Settings Tab shows you information about your account.
One settings allows you to enable to disable uploading photos. This option is a great way to backup the photos you take with your iPhone or iPad. Which I personally endorse and recommend.
Another useful feature is the ability to set a 4 Digit Passcode to open the app for security reasons.
Summary
That’s the basics of the Dropbox iOS App. There is a similar App on the Android platform as well and it functions in much the same way as this App.
