Do NOT Install MacKeeper!
What is MacKeeper?
MacKeeper promotes itself as a suite of tools that help speed up your Mac. It claims that it will optimize your files and operating system.
The problem is that reality doesn’t match that claim.
It seems to be a poorly coded piece of software that causes more problems than solves them. It has also been the gateway of certain malware attacks on Mac Computers.
I’ve seen a handful of computers with MacKeeper installed and every one of them complained that their Mac’s were running slow. Some were having adware problems and malware. And the solution to all their Mac problems was to get rid of MacKeeper.
The bottom line is that MacKeeper is bad news!
Have you ever wondered this?
“Hi Arlen, my Mac is telling me to install MacKeeper. Should I do it?” -A Text Message I received last week.
The answer to this question is almost always NO!
Your Mac doesn’t (or at least it shouldn’t) tell you to install software. The most your Mac should say is that a certain website, or file will not open without the right software. An example of this is when you visit a webpage that requires Adobe Flash to be installed. If you don’t have Flash installed on your Mac (and I don’t install Flash on my Mac). You will not be able to fully view that website. You’ll most likely see a big grey box and some wording like “Requires Adobe Flash…”
That isn’t your Mac telling you to install something. It’s your Mac telling you that a small piece of that website requires Flash and you won’t be able to use that small piece without installing additional software.
Only slimy, scammy companies tell you to install Applications on your Computer. Don’t fall for that bait. This is how a lot of malware infects PC’s.
The Problem Trying to Get Rid of MacKeeper
Most Mac Applications can be uninstalled by simply deleting the Application from the Applications folder on your Mac.
But this does not fully uninstall MacKeeper. You will also need to go into your System’s Library folder and clean out every reference to MacKeeper and zeobit.
My Suggestion
Stay away from MacKeeper and if you have already installed it, remove it and every reference of it from your computer. You’ll be glad you did.
